ARTIST PROFILE

A Visual Journey

Hi, thank you for visiting this website featuring my oil, pastel and watercolor paintings.

With my art, I love to express what makes my eyes and heart smile as I try to capture in oils, pastels or watercolors the beauty that I see. I paint what visually stirs my emotions in

a realistic style. I love late afternoon light, beautiful clouds, trees, streams, fields, farms, mountains, especially in our beautiful Hudson Valley New York. Everywhere I go I find myself looking for compositions that stir my emotions and would make a good subject for a painting.

I have a Master’s Degree in Art Education from The State University at New Paltz. I taught fifteen years for the Newburgh School District before resigning to raise our daughter.

During that time, I started my own school "Story Book Farm Art School" where I taught children and adults for thirty-three years in a stone art studio on our property.

While raising our daughter I also worked part time as an adjunct professor for the Art Education Department at the State University at New Paltz. I was supervisor of art student teachers, coordinator of placements, seminar and art education instructor.

I transitioned back to teaching art in public school (Valley Central School District) where I retired from.

Throughout my career I continued to paint and develop my own artistic skills, for many years I studied under Joan Slocum and learned how to paint Portraits, Landscapes and still life paintings with pastels. I was interested in going back to oil painting so I took workshops with landscape artists John MacDonald and Barbara Jaenickee. I have taught myself water color painting.

I have exhibited in shows and competitions receiving best in show, best in pastel and first place awards.

It has been a joy to teach art skills to my students of all ages in my art school, State University and public schools and watch them reach their greatest potential.

In 2020 due to Covid, I decided to close my art school and devote more time to my own painting, grandchildren and family.

I would like to thank my late Aunt Dora Knapp who encouraged and inspired me to pursue my God given gift for art and was blessed with a wonderful career teaching and creating art. Second to my loving most supportive husband Grady, who has renovated my art studio, helped me to set up when displaying my work and has framed all of my art work.

I hope you will enjoy viewing my paintings in all three mediums. Many have been sold, commissioned, gifted or in my own private collection. If you would like to purchase one of my paintings they are on display at Cafe Mio in Gardiner NY and on my website gallery. (For sale) water colors are available in prints and some originals. More paintings will be for sale soon so keep checking.

 Artfully yours,

Marion Suarez-Schenck
